People often ask me: "Why regenerative medicine? Why Little Rock? Why this?" And the honest answer is that Zen didn't start as a business opportunity I identified. It started as a problem I lived.
The Problem I Saw
For years, I watched people I love — family, friends, colleagues — struggle with health issues that conventional medicine couldn't solve. Not because the science didn't exist, but because the system wasn't built to deliver it. A friend with debilitating fatigue was told her thyroid was "normal" (it wasn't — not by functional standards). A family member with chronic pain was offered nothing but opioids and anti-inflammatories. People in their 40s and 50s were being told that feeling terrible was just "getting older."
And when I looked for alternatives, I found them — but only in Miami, Scottsdale, LA, New York. Regenerative clinics doing incredible work with peptides, hormones, IV therapy, and advanced diagnostics. But nothing like that existed in Arkansas. If you lived in the South, your options were limited: drive 6 hours, fly out of state, or settle for conventional care that wasn't addressing the root cause.
Building Something Different
I didn't want to build a clinic. I wanted to build an experience. There's a difference. A clinic has fluorescent lights, stale magazines, and a receptionist who asks you to "take a seat." An experience has intentional design, personal attention, and a team that knows your name and your story.
When I was designing Zen's space, I spent months studying luxury hospitality — hotels, spas, private clubs — not other medical offices. Because I believe that healing starts with the environment. When you walk into Zen, your nervous system should downshift. The moody lighting, the natural materials, the carefully curated aesthetic — none of that is accidental. It's designed to signal to your body: you're safe here. You can relax. We've got you.
The Team That Makes It Real
A beautiful space means nothing without the right people in it. Finding Dr. Kris Shewmake as our Medical Director was the moment Zen went from a concept to a reality. His depth of knowledge in regenerative and functional medicine, combined with his genuine care for patients, set the clinical standard that defines everything we do.
Brad Heird brings clinical excellence and warmth to every patient interaction — he doesn't just run your IV or monitor your HBOT session; he educates you, advocates for you, and makes sure you're comfortable. Tina Talbert transformed our patient concierge model from an idea into the seamless experience our patients rave about. Every member of the Zen team was hired not just for their credentials, but for their character.
Why Little Rock
I could have built Zen anywhere. I chose Little Rock because this is home — and because this community deserves access to the same caliber of regenerative care available in any major metro. I'm tired of the narrative that world-class healthcare only exists on the coasts. It doesn't have to. Zen is proof that you can deliver elite-level, luxury regenerative medicine in the heart of Arkansas.
And honestly? Patients from Dallas, Nashville, Memphis, and beyond are starting to agree. We're seeing more and more people travel TO Little Rock for care — something that would have seemed improbable when we opened. It turns out that when you combine clinical excellence with genuine hospitality and a personal touch, geography becomes irrelevant.
The Vision Forward
Zen is still growing. We're expanding our services, adding new technologies, writing more content to educate our community, and building partnerships that amplify our mission. But the core will never change: treat every patient like they're the only patient. Never compromise on quality. Make regenerative wellness accessible, personal, and transformative.
If you've made it to the bottom of this article, thank you. Whether you're a current patient, someone considering Zen, or just curious about what we do — I appreciate you being here. And if you ever want to talk, my door is always open. Literally.
